GM is surprised that less people are buying new cars today ?

A recent quote from www.reuters.com:

"February was a very disappointing month for industry sales. I think most everyone is going to be down," Lutz, GM's product development chief, told Reuters.

With the current recession in the US, Gasoline topping $3.00 / Gallon, rampant price increases, and increasing layoffs is this really a surprise to anyone ?

People only have so much money, if you keep raising the prices of everything eventually you hit a point where they just can't pay anymore, and have to stop buying things.  This is the one of the causes of the current Recession in the US.
